Unit A - Chapter 2

Investigating Science 10

Quick Lab

A Body of Knowledge

The human body has many organs and organ systems that work together. The interaction between these organ systems can be confusing, so it is worthwhile to build a model of the organ systems to help further understanding.

Dry Lab

A "dry lab" activity includes collected data for your convenience. If you wish to perform this lab and collect your own data, use the following procedure.

Purpose

To pinpoint the location of major human organs, and build a model of human organ systems.

Materials and Equipment

  • coloured pencils
  • life size outline of the human body on paper

Dry Lab

A "dry lab" activity includes collected data, completed problems, or a video problem solution for your convenience. You can simply watch the following video, or if you wish to perform this lab and solve the problem for yourself, follow the procedure steps 1 through 4 described in the video. The same steps are included in written form in the documents available for download on the bottom of this page.

Questions

  1. Look closely at the organ system(s) you drew. If you drew more than one system, focus your attention on one particular system. Based on the location of this system and your understanding of the functions of each component, what role do you think this system plays in the working of your entire body?
  2. Pick two human body systems and explain how their functions are related.
